Man, 23, arrested as CANU destroys 3,000 ganja plants

Shafeer Sanichar, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on Friday after the Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit (CANU) found him at a marijuana camp in St. Cuthbert’s Mission on the Linden/ Soesdyke highway.

A press release from CANU reported that 3,000 cannabis plants were found on 2.5 acres of land. These trees ranged from three to six feet in height. Additionally, processed cannabis and a quantity of seeds were also discovered.

CANU made the discovery after it received intelligence about the narcotic operation. And, at the camp, Sanichar was discovered under a makeshift tent processing cannabis plants at one of the fields.

CANU said that investigations are ongoing.
