Region Three unveils massive Christmas tree to usher in festive season

After its attempt at a Christmas tree light-up last year attracted much amusement on social media, the Region Three People’s Progressive Party group on Sunday evening unveiled a massive tree to usher in the festive season.

Following the sharing of photos and videos on social media, the region came in for high praises for the magnificent 25-feet structure, which stands a symbol of everything positive and cheerful about the season.

Unlike the previous tree, which was a live one, the one that was illuminated at Plantain Walk, West Bank Demerara, was built from scratch, an effort that was massively supported by businessmen of the region.

Some little ones stopped by to have a photo with the tree

Deonarine Jaipersaud, who was part of the group that mounted the tree, lauded the businessmen for “seeing it fit” to continue the tradition.

He stated that last year while in the process of decorating the live tree some limbs were damaged, which led to the tree losing its shape.

“But this year we decided to build a tree and most of funding for this came from within the Region. And we want to thank the donors very much for that,” Jaipersaud said.

While the official ceremony to commission the tree was not open to the public, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Jaipersaud is urging Guyanese to feel free to pass by and enjoy its magnificence.

“A lot of people stopped last night and took photos and so on, so we want to encourage persons to do the same and we also want to wish them the very best for the season,” Jaipersaud added.
