A 13-year-old boy reportedly admitted to stealing his 62-year-old neighbour’s purse which contained $38,000 local currency and a $40,000 gold chain.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 14:40hrs on Thursday at New Street, Cumberland, East Canje Berbice.
According to reports, the 62-year-old woman was approached by the boy who asked her for $1,000. Police said she took the money from her purse and handed it to him and then placed the purse on her kitchen table.
The woman did some chores and later realised that her purse was missing.
She then contacted the police and according to the report, the stolen purse and articles were recovered, after which the boy confessed to the crime.
The young boy was released into the custody of an adult relative.
