Beharry Restaurant Holdings Inc., through KFC Guyana, has come on board in a significant way with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Kashif and Shanghai Organisation Year-end Football tournament by pledging G$10 million in sponsorship.

On Friday, it was a simple ceremony, but for Guyana’s football and its usually colossal year-end tournament, extremely significant given the magnitude of the sponsorship.

Operations Manager for KFC Guyana, Charissa Rampersaud, highlighted the unifying effect the sport has on Guyanese people and it was most ideal to support an iconic tournament.

“Football is a unifying sport that brings Guyanese people across the country together. Sport plays such an important part in the development of our young people and helping them to be well-rounded individuals,” the Rampersaud exclaimed.

GFF President Wayne Forde expressed gratitude to KFC for the overwhelming support of football in Guyana, specifically highlighting the KFC Intra-Association Under-20 Championship and now this momentous sponsorship.

Despite the ongoing inclement weather, Forde said they are still focused on ensuring the tournaments run in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines and they are not too worried about the weather, given the norm at this junction of the year.

The 10-day tournament, which culminates on January 1, starts on Friday evening at Leonora with West Demerara Football Association battling Georgetown Football Association.

On Sunday, from 17:00h, action is scheduled to be held at the Georgetown Football Club with Fruta Conquerors playing Berbice All-Stars, followed by the opening ceremony at 19:00h, then Western Tigers playing Rupununi from 20:30h.
