Elderly unvaccinated woman dies from COVID; 16 in ICU

One woman, age 76, of Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne) died from COVID-19, increasing the country’s total deaths to 1,017.

The Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that the woman was unvaccinated; she died on December 10.

With this death, December’s death toll has increased to 17.

Meanwhile, Guyana has recorded a total of 38,492 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus with the addition of 31 new infections recorded over the past 24-hours.

Those new cases are recorded in: Region Two (one case); Region Three (seven cases); Region Four (19 cases); Region Five (three cases) and Region Six (nine cases).

There are 16 patients in the Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 44 patients are in institutional isolation and 779 patients are in home isolation.

To date, 36,636 persons have recovered from the virus.
