Supervisor robbed of $3.4M payroll at Mahaicony Rice Mill

A 41-year-old supervisor attached to Kissoondyal Enterprise Inc. Rice Mill at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, was on Friday robbed some $3.4 million in cash.

The money was intended to be payment for workers and rice farmers.

Police said the woman left the rice mill on Friday at about 10:30hrs with four cheques amounting to $3,463,798.

In the company of a female colleague, she went to a bank in Georgetown where she cashed the cheques and returned to the rice mill in the same car.

Upon arrival at the rice mill, she was confronted by an unidentified male who was armed with a handgun as she was about to exit the car. The woman claimed that he threatened to shoot her if she didn’t hand over the bag with the cash.

He then pulled the bag out of her hand and escaped in an unknown direction.

Police said several persons in the area were contacted and questioned but no useful information was received.

Checks for the suspect have so far have proven futile.
