Man brutalises ‘child mother’ who refused to reconcile relationship
A 43-year-old man on Sunday brutalised the 27-year-old mother of his child after she refused to reconcile the relationship.
Police said the incident occurred at 17:30hrs along Kanuku Drive, Lethem, Region Nine.
The two were reportedly not on speaking terms over the past four months.
On Sunday, the woman returned to Lethem from Georgetown with her brother. As she was waiting at the bus service to collect her suitcase and bags, she saw the man riding on a bicycle heading in her direction but she hid from him.
Later, she was at a residence at Kanuku Drive Lethem washing her clothing when the suspect approached her and told her he wanted to reconcile their relationship. She refused and he threatened to kill both her and himself, the police report detailed.
Police said the woman became fearful and decided to flee but he grabbed her by the hair, picked up a piece of wood and lashed her on the left arm.
He also hit her with a clay brick to her head. She managed to escape and ran over to a variety store to seek refuge.
The police were summoned and the suspect was later contacted and told of the allegation and cautioned but he denied it.
The woman was escorted to Lethem Regional Hospital where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who treated her for a broken left arm.
The man was placed into custody pending investigations.
