Man wanted for Rosignol murder captured; mother also in custody

Police on Monday nabbed wanted man “Tanta Boy” at Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder backlands.

Based on a tipoff, the Police went to the area looking for the man, identified as Shane Samaroo, 20.

During the extensive search, Samaroo was found and arrested along with his mother Irene Seecharan called Pinkey, 36, a housewife of Mibicuri Black Bush, Polder, Corentyne Berbice.

She was arrested for harboring a wanted person. They were both escorted to the Central Police Station where they are presently in custody.

Samaroo was wanted for the murder of Faroze Khan of Carriage Road, Rosignol, West Coast Berbice. Khan was beaten and stabbed to death on August 19, 2021, at Bennet Dam, Rosignol. The Guyana Police Force had issued a wanted bulletin for Samaroo following the murder.

Initial reports by the News Room detailed that Khan was at a grocery shop on the day in question when Samaroo entered to purchase a bottle of water.

He reportedly grabbed a piece of wood and charged towards Khan who had left the shop and was walking in the street.

He dealt him several lashes about the body. An eyewitness told police that Khan fell to the ground and the suspect then whipped out a knife from his pants and stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene.

Khan was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
