    Three new COVID deaths, 12 in ICU

    Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 1,023 with three more deaths, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.

    Those deaths were a partially vaccinated 54-year-old man of Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) who died on December 12 and two unvaccinated women – one 79-years-old of Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice) who also died on December 12 and the other 75-years-old of Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) who died on December 13.

    With the addition of those new deaths, December’s death toll has increased to 23.

    Meanwhile, 14 new infections were recorded from 263 COVID-19 tests, increasing the country’s overall infections to 38, 568.

    Those new cases came from Region Four (eight cases), Region Six (five cases) and Region Seven (one case).

    Additionally, there are 12 patients in the Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 40 patients are in institutional isolation and 802 patients are in home isolation.

    To date, 36,691 persons have recovered from the virus.
