Dionysius Macido called “Niggi” of Tiger Creek was on Friday sentenced to eight years imprisonment for fatally stabbing a man, who attempted to part a fight between him and his reputed wife at Turtle Creek Landing, Mazaruni River.

Last month, Macido was arraigned before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Suddie High Court for the capital offence of murder, however, he opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter which read that on June 21, 2020, in Region Seven, he unlawfully killed Tamesh (only name given).

During the sentencing hearing on Friday, Justice Sewnarine-Beharry considered the nature and gravity of the charge, that Macideo pleaded guilty to the charge and did not waste the court’s time.

As such, she sentenced him to eight years behind bars and ordered that the prison authorities deduct from his sentence the time he spent on remand.

According to reports, Macido and his reputed wife were involved in a scuffle at Turtle Creek; Tamesh, who was nearby, saw the altercation and attempted to intervene. It is alleged that Macido armed himself with a sharp instrument and stabbed Tamesh several times about the body.
