Speeding car crashes into parked lorry; one dead, others injured

One person is now dead and several others injured after a speeding car crashed into a parked lorry on the Gangaram, East Canje public road Saturday morning.

Dead is Patrick David, 40 of Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice; those injured have been identified as Hemraj Sheodarsom, 36 of West Canefield Settlement; Dellon Giddings, 36 of Rose Hall, East Canje and Javed Sherif, 17 of Second Street, Overwinning, East Bank Berbice.

The parked lorry is owned by Harish Kupsammy of Gangaram, East Canje.

An injured Sheodarsom told police that David was driving PSS 820 south along the eastern drive lane at a fast rate after leaving the Hommie Bar and Restaurant when he lost control of and crashed into the front right side of the lorry which was parked on the western side of the road facing north.

Following the collision, the car pitched into the nearby trench on the eastern side. The driver and the occupants were all removed out in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

David was pronounced dead; his body is presently at the Arokium Funeral Home awaiting post mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the injured Sherif was treated but subsequently transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital and is in serious condition.

Sheodarsom and Giddings are patients at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and are reportedly stable.
