Man, 18, crushed to death by reversing lorry in Berbice

An 18-year-old man was on Monday crushed to death by a reversing lorry in the compound of Hack Rice Mill, Golden Grove, West Coast Berbice.

Dead is Tularam Harrylall, a labourer of Lot 855 Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.

News Room was informed that Asad Baksh, called ‘Black Boy’, was reversing motor lorry, bearing licence plate number GRR 7060, with trailer TWW 1259 and a container to be loaded in the broiler area when another employee alerted him to stop.

He immediately exited the lorry and ventured to the back where he saw Harrylall lifeless on the ground.

Baksh, 24, is employed at Hack Rice Mill as a driver, but is unlicensed.

The incident occurred around 11:30h.

Harrylall was rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body of the deceased is presently lying at Anthony funeral home awaiting post mortem.

The lorry is owned by businessman Abdool Hack of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara. He is presently overseas, News Room was informed.
