    Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 1,033 with the addition of three deaths, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.

    Dead are an unvaccinated 74-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) who died on December 19 and a 67-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara -Mahaica). A third person whose vaccination status is unknown also died on December 19, only identified as an 84-year-old male also from Region Four.

    With these three deaths, December’s death toll is now 33.

    Meanwhile, 21 more infections were recorded, increasing the total confirmed cases to 38, 891.

    The new cases were recorded in Region One (one case); Region Three (two cases); Region Four (11 cases); Region Five (one case) and Region Six (five cases) and Region Eight (one case).

    There are also 11 patients in the Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 35 patients are in institutional isolation and 713 patients are in home isolation.

    To date, 37, 099 persons have recovered from the virus.
