CANU intercepts over $13M in cocaine at Austin Street
Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Monday arrested a man who was found in possession of 2.374 kg (5.22 lbs) of cocaine.
A CANU press release noted that ranks acted on information received and conducted the operation between Austin Street and Durey Lane, Campbellville during which they observed a male fitting the description they received.
According to CANU, the officers identified themselves and attempted to question the individual but he attempted to escape and was eventually apprehended after he crashed his bicycle into a parked vehicle.
“During the search of the individual a brick-like object suspected to be narcotics was found inside a bag that was in his possession,” CANU said.
The man was then taken to his residence where a search was conducted in his presence and another brick-like object, suspected to be narcotics, was found in his bedroom.
CANU suspects that the cocaine was going to be transshipped to the USA where it has a street value of around US$66,000.00 USD (approximately G$13,860,000).
