The addition of two new COVID-19 deaths have moved the country’s overall death toll to 1, 042.
Both victims are from Region Six (East Berbice Corentyne) – an 87-year-old woman who died on December 21 and 45-year-old man who died on December 23.
The Ministry of Health reported that they were both were unvaccinated. December’s death toll has now increased to 42.
Meanwhile, the country’s total confirmed cases has increased to 38, 998 with the addition of 32 new cases after 1, 171 COVID-19 tests were conducted.
The cases were recorded in: Region Two (two cases); Region Three (one case); Region Four (18 cases); Region Five (one case); Region Six (eight cases); Region Seven (one case) and Region 10 (one case).
There are also five patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 33 people in institutional isolation, 673 people in home isolation and six people in institutional quarantine.
Meanwhile, a total of 37, 245 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
