    An 85-year-old woman from Region One (Barima- Waini) is among the three latest COVID-19 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health. The woman, whose vaccination status is unknown, died on December 24.

    A 66-year-old fully vaccinated woman from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) and a 68-year-old unvaccinated man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) also died. The woman died on December 25 while the man died on December 24.

    With these deaths, the COVID-19 death toll has increased to 1,045 with 45 of those deaths being recorded in December alone.

    In addition to these deaths, there have been 44 new COVID-19 infections recorded over a 24-hour period and this has increased the total number of cases recorded in Guyana since March 2020 to 39,086.

    The 44 new infections were recorded after 1,136 tests were done.

    And these new cases were recorded in: Region Two (one case), Region Three (one case), Region Four (21 cases), Region Five (five cases), Region Six (12 cases) and Region 10 (four cases)

    There are also seven patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 people in institutional isolation, 704 people in home isolation and four people in institutional quarantine.

    Meanwhile, a total of 37,301 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
