A massive Christmas Day fire at Ankerville, Port Mourant in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) has left a family of five homeless.

The two-storey wooden building was occupied by Ravi Rashaney and his family of four; the building and all of its contents were destroyed.

The Guyana Fire Service reported that one fire tender from the Corriverton Fire Station responded at around 17:14 hrs on Saturday. The blaze was not controlled, however.

It is not yet known what caused the fire.

Meanwhile, it was also reported that two nearby buildings were affected by the blaze.

Six louvre panels and ten meters of PVC guttering at a flat wooden and concrete building owned by Chandrawattie Deokharan were slightly damaged due to radiated heat from the building.

Five louvre panels on the northern side of a wooden and concrete building, occupied by Andy Dhanessar and his family of five, were completely destroyed due to radiated heat.
