The death of an unvaccinated 69-year-old man of Region Three (Essequibo Island – West Demerara) has increased Guyana’s COVID-19 death to 1,052.
The Minister of Health reported that the latest victim died on December 30 and now, December’s death toll has increased to 52.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases have risen significantly with the ministry recording 157 new infections from 1,817 tests on Thursday as opposed to 87 cases on Wednesday.
This now puts the country’s total confirmed cases at 39,395.
The new cases are from: Region Two (one case), Region Three (12 cases), Region Four (86 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (36 cases), Region Nine (23 cases) and Region 10 (six cases).
There are also seven patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 people are in institutional isolation, 711 people are in home isolation and five persons are in institutional quarantine.
Meanwhile, a total of 37, 595 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
