    Guyana has now recorded 1,054 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic started with the Ministry of Health reporting two additional deaths.

    The latest deaths were recorded as a fully vaccinated 60-year-old man of Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) and an unvaccinated 72-year-old woman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

    The Ministry of Health reported on Friday that the two persons died on December 29th and 30th respectively.

    Now, December’s death toll has increased to 54.

    Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases are on the rise again as Guyana recorded 178 new infections in the past 24-hours.

    Those new cases – from 1,609 tests – were recorded in: Region One (three cases), Region Two (two cases), Region Three (13 cases), Region Four (113 cases), Region Five (one case), Region Six (27 cases), Region Nine (nine cases) and Region 10 (10 cases).

    There are also six patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 37 people are in institutional isolation, 850 people are in home isolation and five persons are in institutional quarantine.

    Meanwhile, a total of 37, 626 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
