Married Men beat Bachelors in Lusignan annual softball game

Married Men defeated Bachelors in the traditional Boxing Day softball game at Lusignan, to move ahead 5-4 in the nine-year history of the friendly rivalry.

Playing at the Lusignan Community Centre ground, Married Men prevailed by 33 runs over the Bachelors.

Batting first, Married Men posted a commanding 245-6 from the stipulated 22 overs. Navin Persaud laced eight sixes and a solitary four in topscoring with 60 not out, while Baldeo Persaud struck six maximums and a boundary in 52 not out.

Vishnu Ramjeet cleared the boundary five times in his 38, while Robin Williams and Andrew Dhanraj were the pick of the bowlers with 2-12 and 2-21 respectively, both off two overs.

In reply, Bachelors made 221 off the allotted 22 overs.

Gavin Boodwah made a topscore of 45 (6x6s), Keon Franklin made 43 (1×4, 5x6s) and Kumar Bishundial scored 36 not out (1×4, 4x6s).

Bowling for Married Men, Shamir Mohamed took 2-28 and Baldeo Persaud 1-23.

After the game, Navin Persaud was named Man-of-the-Match, Baldeo Persaud Best Batsman, Robin Williams Best Bowler and Sackichan Jhagdeo copped the Best Catch prize.
