A 27-year-old woman from the Belvedere Village in Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) was assaulted by her husband on Friday, and soon after discovered that her house was destroyed by fire.
According to a police report, at around 19:20 hrs on Friday, the woman and her husband had a misunderstanding during which he slapped and cuffed her several times. He also threatened to set their house on fire.
The woman, reportedly, went to her relatives and told them about the assault and threats from her husband. But “moments later”, she saw that her house was engulfed in flames.
A report was made to the Rose Hall Town Fire Service but firefighters could not save the zinc structure from being destroyed.
Meanwhile, police reported that efforts were made to contact the husband but those efforts have been futile.
