    Unvaccinated woman is first reported COVID death for 2022; over 250 new cases

    A 79-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) is Guyana’s first reported COVID-19 death for 2022. The woman died on January 2.

    WIth this woman’s death, a total of 1,055 people have died after being infected with the novel coronavirus since the first case and death was reported on March 11, 2020.

    Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has reported that another 281 people tested positive and this takes the total number of infections recorded since March 2020 to 40,060.

    The new infections were recorded after 2,837 COVID-19 tests were done. And these new cases were recorded in: Region One (one case), Region Two (six cases), Region Three (21 cases), Region Four (189 cases), Region Five (10 cases), Region Six (49 cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (three cases) and Region 10 (one case).

    There are also five patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 41 people in institutional isolation, 1,297 people in home isolation and four in institutional quarantine.

    Meanwhile, a total of 37,708 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
