A young businessman of Anna Regina and his wife are counting their lucky stars after an accident on Sunday night during which he was forced to steer his car away from crashing into a donkey but ended up slamming into a lamp post, uprooting it, and then toppling.
Vick Sooragpaul, the owner of V-Tech cellphone repair store and his wife Seromini Choomanlall were heading in the northern direction at La Belle Alliance when the accident occurred.
Reports are that Sooragpaul suddenly noticed the donkey in his way and he tried to avoid crashing into it but crashed into the post instead, plunging the entire community into darkness.
The couple was assisted by residents and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
The Essequibo Chamber of Commerce has been repeatedly calling on the Anna Regina Town Council and Police to get stray animals off the public road.
