GCB mourns passing of “forthright and assertive” Atwell

The Guyana Cricket Board has expressed shock at the passing of Sherlock Atwell, called “Zegga”, who died on Sunday. Atwell was a member of the Demerara Cricket Club, where he served as a player and administrator.

Below is the full message from the Guyana Cricket Board

The President and Executive and Members of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) wish to express our surprise of the sudden passing of Mr. Sherlock Atwell.

“Zegga”, as he was familiarly known, died on Sunday January 2, 2022. He was a member of the Demerara Cricket Club where he played and administered the game of cricket.

He also played important roles on the Georgetown Cricket Association, Demerara Cricket Board and the Guyana Cricket Board, including liaison officer and the management of pitch preparation works during regional tournaments held in Guyana.

Sherlock Atwell was a passionate sports’ personality who was also keen on sharing his views and insight to the conduct and development of the game. He will be remembered for his forthright and assertive approach to the game both as a player and administrator.

The GCB hereby wishes to express sincere condolences to the wife, children and other family members of the late Sherlock Atwell.

May his soul rest in peace.
