    A 35-year-old taxi driver of Recht-Door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara was sentenced to six years and six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a series of armed robberies.

    Kwame Jowanza appeared before Magistrate Ally Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

    He was arrested on January 03 for robbing several persons between November 26, 2021 and January 03, 2022.

    Police Headquarters reported that ranks, acting on information received, went to Jowanza’s house and found a number of the stolen items including 14 handbags, one fake licensed number plate, two Samsung cellphones, one tablet and a Bluetooth speaker.

    Two clerks – 21-year-old Basmattie Surjpaul and Melenda Alli, 23, both of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo – were robbed on January 03.

    Meanwhile, on November 26, 2021, 18-year-old technician Budindra Basdeo and Tamika Bidder, 21, were robbed.

    Police said all of the victims positively identified Jowanza as the person who robbed them.
