An early morning fire on Thursday destroyed a two-storey wooden and concrete house at Prashad Nagar, Georgetown and also damaged two nearby houses.

The Guyana Fire Service reported that all three buildings were unoccupied when the fire erupted at around 03:00hrs.

Fire tenders from the Central, Alberttown and Campbellville Fire Stations responded to the scene but the entire building and its contents were destroyed.

Meanwhile, the two other buildings located at Lot 90 and 92 of the same address suffered damage to their PVC guttering, roof and AC units due to radiated heat.

Investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the fire. The fire service advised that smoke detectors and fire extinguishers can be very useful in the event of a fire.

The Guyana Fire Service continues to encourage citizens to equip their homes with these preventative devices and to adhere to safety measures in order to protect their homes and loved ones from fire emergencies.
