Four more die from COVID-19; over 3,000 in home isolation

A 42-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), who was partially vaccinated, is among the four additional COVID-19 deaths reported by the Ministry of Health on Thursday.

This man died on January 5. The other COVID-19 deaths are: a 62-year-old unvaccinated man from Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam) who also died on January 5; a 47-year-old fully vaccinated man from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) who died on January 4; and, a 48-year-old fully vaccinated woman from Region Four who also died on January 5.

With these additional deaths, there have been a total of 1,064 COVID-19 deaths recorded in Guyana since March 11, 2020. And of that number, 10 deaths have been recorded in January so far.

Meanwhile, a total of 967 people tested positive for the virus. These positive cases were recorded after 3,226 tests were done, and now, there has been a total of 42,385 infections recorded locally.

These new infections were recorded in Region One (one case), Region Two (21 cases), Region Three (79 cases), Region Four (639 cases), Region Five (40 cases), Region Six (56 cases), Region Seven (60 cases), Region Nine (46 cases) and Region 10 (25 cases).

There are also six patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 75 people in institutional isolation, five people in institutional quarantine and 3,374 people in home isolation.

Importantly, a total of 37,866 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease.
