    Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 1,066 with the Ministry of Health reporting two additional deaths.

    Those who died were identified as a 60-year-old woman of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and a 66-year-old man of Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

    The Ministry of Health reported on Friday that both victims were unvaccinated and died on January 6.

    Now, 12 deaths have been recorded in January so far.

    Meanwhile, a total of 844 people tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. These positive cases were recorded after 2,954 tests were done. This takes the total number of infections since March 2020 to 43, 229.

    These new infections were recorded in Region One (15 cases), Region Two (16 cases), Region Three (66 cases), Region Four (505 cases), Region Five (six cases), Region Six (89 cases), Region Seven (three cases), Region Nine (48 cases) and Region 10 (96 cases).

    There are also five patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 91 people in institutional isolation, 12 people in institutional quarantine and 4,178 people in home isolation.

    A total of 37, 895 people have recovered after they were infected with the virus.
