The Guyana Harpy Eagles Best v Best Four-Day game ended in a tame draw at Albion on Saturday, but two left-handers made the most of the final day by scoring fifties.

Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and wicketkeeper batsman Kemol Savory both made half-centuries, as Leon Johnson’s XI, resuming on 8-0, ended the day on 170-3.

Final scores in the game: Leon Johnson’s XI 254 and 170-3; Keemo Paul’s XI 357.

    Savory scored 54 off 189blls (238 minutes; 3x4s, 1×6) and Chanderpaul made 52 off 154 balls (2x4s, 1×6).

Skipper Johnson was not out on 32 and Vishaul Singh 11 when bails were lifted, while opener Raymond Perez was the other batsman dismissed for 10.

Left-arm spinners Veerasammy Permaul and Ashmead had a wicket apiece, while Chanderpaul was dismissed via the run out route.

The game was the first of three being used by the Guyana Cricket Board to select the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad to compete in the Regional Four-Day Championship, starting next month.

SUMMARY: Leon Johnson’s XI 254 (Clinton Pestano 69, Akshaya Persaud 61, Keemo Paul 2-20, Sylus Tyndall 2-27, Veerasammy Permaul 2-67) and 170-3 (Kemol Savory 54, Chanderpaul 52) vs Keemo Paul XI 357 (Shimron Hetmyer 149, Tevin Imlach 106, Antony Adams 5-60)
