    The number of active COVID-19 infections continues to climb as another 438 people tested positive over a 24-hour period after 1,680 tests were done, the Ministry of Health reported.

    With these additional cases, the number of confirmed infections in Guyana since March 11, 2020 has increased to 45, 340.

    A majority of those cases have been recorded in Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), Guyana’s most populated region. A total of 22,061 infections were recorded here.

    These new infections were recorded from: Region Two (six cases), Region Three (50 cases), Region Four (304 cases), Region Five (13 cases), Region Six (38 cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Eight (two cases), Region Nine (17 cases) and Region 10 (six cases).

    There are also eight patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 107 people are in institutional isolation, 11 people are in institutional quarantine and 6.006 people are in home isolation.

    Importantly, a total of 38,149 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease.

    Meanwhile, no additional deaths were reported. Therefore, Guyana still has a total of 1,070 COVID-19 deaths, with 15 of those recorded in January thus far.
