Three arrested for armed robbery of Brazilian national; loot recovered
Police have arrested three men – ages 22, 23, 31, in connection with the armed robbery of a Brazilian national which occurred on Sunday afternoon along the Puruni trail in Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region Seven.
Police said the same men are also being investigated in relation to other armed robberies.
According to the police report, on Sunday the victim was driving along the trail at around 16:00hrs in his ATV when he was ambushed by the three men – one of whom was armed with a gun.
They robbed him of four gold rings; two gold bracelets; six gold chains; five cellphones and $70,000 in cash. They escaped on foot heading back towards Puruni Landing.
On Monday, following information received, police stopped a passenger car along the Puruni trail; two of the suspects were inside. During questioning, they led ranks to the third suspect who was arrested at Puruni Landing.
Police recovered all of the gold jewellery and $44,000 in cash along with wigs. The police claimed that the men confessed to the armed robbery.
