Two more die from COVID; near 7,500 people in home isolation

A 57-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice) and an 80-year-old fully vaccinated woman from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) are Guyana’s latest reported COVID-19 deaths.

The Ministry of Health reported that the 57-year-old woman died on January 10 while the 80-year-old woman died on January 11.

With these two additional deaths, Guyana has recorded a total of 1,075 COVID-19 deaths since March 11, 2020. And 20 of these individuals have died in January thus far.

Meanwhile, another 1,000 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus over a 24-hour period. With these additional cases, the number of confirmed infections in Guyana since March 11, 2020 has increased to 47,005.

Earlier on Wednesday, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony reported that 1,019 new infections– a new record for Guyana- were recorded.

The News Room, however, understands that the number of infections was double-checked during the day and it was found that only 1,000 new infections were recorded.

These new infections were recorded in Region One (24 cases), Region two (33 cases), Region Three (123 cases), Region Four (668 cases), Region Five (11 cases), Region Six (82 cases), Region Seven (32 cases) and Region 10 (27 cases).

There are also 13 patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 109 people are in institutional isolation, nine people are in institutional quarantine and 7,462 people are in home isolation.

Importantly, a total of 38,346 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease.
