Tagenarine Chanderpaul is 15 away from a century as Keemo Paul’s XI ended the first day of Guyana Harpy Eagles’ second practice game, leading Leon Johnson’s XI by 22 runs at the Albion Community Centre ground on Friday.

Unbeaten with Chanderpaul at stumps is Trevon Griffith on 57 as their side reached 143 without loss in response to Leon Johnson’s XI 121 all out in 51.3 overs.

Chanderpaul, who made 52 in the first practice match, has thus far faced 129 balls in his uncharacteristically high-tempo innings. He has struck nine fours, while to the contrary, Griffith has faced 100 balls and has five fours.

Earlier, Johnson’s 33 (3x4s) off 99 balls and Sachin Singh 32 (3x4s) off 79 balls were the main scores, along with Chandrapaul Hemraj (21) and Kevin Sinclair (13), as no other batsman made it to double figures.

Off-spinner Junior Sinclair (5-18) and left-arm spinner Antony Adams (3-16) recked havoc; Adams pressed his case for selection as he followed up his 5-60 in the first warm-up with another creditable performance.

Seamers Keon Joseph (1-6) and Clinton Pestano (1-26) were also among the wickets.

The action continues on Saturday from 09:30h.
