    A three-year-old boy of Region Four who died on January 9 is among five new COVID-19 deaths recorded on Saturday, increasing Guyana’s overall death toll to 1,086.

    The other victims are:
    – a fully vaccinated 74-year-old woman of Region Two who died on January 13
    – a partially vaccinated 48-year-old man also of Region Two who died on January 14
    – a 58-year-old man of Region Four who also died on January 9 (vaccination status unknown)
    – a 61-year-old man of Region Three who died on January 15 (vaccination status unknown)

    As a result, the death toll for January now stands at 31, and a total of 13 children have died after becoming infected with the virus since it was first discovered here in March 2020.

    Meanwhile, 1,065 new infections were recorded from 3,279 tests, increasing the number of confirmed infections in Guyana since March 11, 2020 to 50,121.

    The new infections were recorded in Region One (24 cases), Region two (49 cases), Region Three (115 cases), Region Four (619 cases), Region Five (20 cases), Region Six (49 cases), Region Seven (77 cases), Region Eight (17 cases), Region Nine (74 cases) and Region 10 (21 cases).

    Additionally, 15 patients are receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while 170 people are in institutional isolation, five people are in institutional quarantine and 9,548 people are in home isolation.

    A total of 39,302 people have recovered.
