Four nabbed as CANU, GRA seize contraband items, ganja during Berbice operation

A joint operation between the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Friday at #59 Village, Public Road, Corentyne Berbice led to the seizure of a quantity of narcotics and uncustomed goods.
The find led to four persons being arrested.
A CANU release noted that officers uncovered 45 boxes of frozen chicken and 25 boxes of Smirnoff ice beer, as well as suspected cannabis hidden among the items in a vehicle.
The items were taken to CANU’s Headquarters and the suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted 22.4 grams. The contraband items were then handed over to GRA.
According to CANU, operations such as this one is meant to dismantle the illegal smuggling of contraband goods and the trafficking of narcotics.
