Two children among 9 more COVID deaths; 1,082 new cases
Two more children – a six-year-old girl and a three-month-old baby girl have died from the dreaded coronavirus.
They are among the nine more fatalities reported by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, taking Guyana’s overall death toll since March 2020 to 1,095 persons.
The victims are as follows:
From Region Three:
– a 72-year-old woman of died on January 1 (fully vaccinated)
– a 70-year-old man who died on January 7 (unvaccinated)
– a 63-year-old man of who died on January 9 (vaccination status unknown)
– a 6-year-old girl who died on January 10
From Region Four:
– a 3-month-old baby girl who died on January 14
– a 62-year-old man who died on January 15 (fully vaccinated)
– a 49-year-old man who died on January 15 (fully vaccinated)
– a 61-year-old man who died on January 16 (fully vaccinated)
From Region Six:
– a 45-year-old woman who died on January 15 (fully vaccinated)
Those deaths have increased January’s death toll to 40. And now, a total of 15 children have died after becoming infected with the virus since it was first discovered here in March 2020.
Meanwhile, 1,082 new infections were recorded from 4,646 tests, increasing the number of confirmed infections in Guyana to 51,203.
The new infections were recorded in Region One (five cases); Region two (14 cases); Region Three (193 cases); Region Four (670 cases); Region Five (37 cases); Region Six (38 cases); Region Seven (10 cases); Region Eight (eight cases); Region Nine (67 cases) and Region 10 (40 cases).
Additionally, 12 patients are receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while 164 people are in institutional isolation, five people are in institutional quarantine and 10,399 people are in home isolation.
A total of 39,533 people have recovered.
