Watkins, Harry and Bulkan excel at Crown Mining golf tournament

The Crown Mining Supplies golf tournament, played under the company’s exclusive TOLSEN brand of heavy duty construction equipment, teed off the 2022 season on Saturday with 35 golfers taking to the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demerara.

Englishman Tom Watkins separated himself from a strong field to cart off four trophies, including one for the overall Best Gross of 73. David Harry was the overall Net champion with an impressive round, which included five birdies en route to a Best Net score of 67.

Watkins, playing off a handicap of four, won the 0-9 Flight with Gross 73, Net 69, while Ravindra Harry, playing off an eight handicap, finished second with Gross 77, Net 69.

In the 10-18 Flight, David Harry took the top podium spot with Gross 79, Net 67, followed by Paton George (Gross 84, Net 71).

Ronald Bulkan (Gross 90, Net 69) won the 19-36 Flight, with Eureka Giddings (Gross 94, Net 70) took second spot.

Watkins carted off the Longest Drive trophy, while Kassim Khan took home the Nearest-to-the-Flag prize.

At the trophy presentation, Nadine Persaud of Crown Mining Supplies expressed gratitude to the golfers for their participation in the one-day tournament. She also reminded them of the decades-long partnership the company has shared with the Lusignan Golf Club, an alliance she said will endure well into the future.

“The Lusignan Golf Club Executive Committee wishes to thank all attendees and staff for their continued adherence to all COVID protocols and look forward to doing its part to responsibly grow the game of golf in Guyana. The club is aiming to expand the game and its values to underserved communities,” the Club said in a statement.
