Over 11,000 active COVID cases; another death & almost 900 new infections

An 87-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara -Mahaica) has died from COVID-19, taking Guyana’s overall death toll since March 2020 to 1,096.

The Ministry of Health on Monday reported that the man was fully vaccinated; January’s death toll has now increased to 41.

Meanwhile, a total of 892 new infections were recorded from a total of 2, 633 tests.

This means that since March 2020, 52, 095 persons were infected with the dreaded virus; there are currently 11, 369 active COVID cases across the country.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions; Region One (one case); Region Two (35 cases); Region Three (71 cases); Region Four (652 cases); Region Five (26 cases); Region Six (26 cases); Region Seven (36 cases); Region Eight (four cases); Region Nine (14 cases) and Region Ten (27 cases).

There are 15 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 158 people are in institutional isolation and 11, 196 are in home isolation.

To date, 39, 630 people have recovered from the virus.
