Three men were on Tuesday released on $40,000 bail each for allegedly littering along Wellington Street, Georgetown.

Popular tailor Satnarine Bisnauth of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo; Jomo Singh of William Street, Kitty and Wellington Jirk of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown were arraigned before City Magistrate Annette Singh for dumping litter in a public place.

The men were charged separately and pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Singh released them on $40,000 bail each and adjourned the matter to February 10, 2022.

The police are clamping down on litterbugs following a massive clean-up campaign spearheaded by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, in a collaborative effort with the private sector and joint services aimed at restoring the beauty of the ‘Garden City.’

“The Guyana Police Force is cautioning members of the public that it is unlawful to be dumping garbage in the city of Georgetown and its environs, and anyone found doing so will face the full force of the law,” a report from the police recently noted.
