Two teenagers – 18-year-old Lennon Wilson and 19-year-old Jobe Edwards – died on Monday after they collided with each other along the Karaudanawa Road in Region Nine.

Police Headquarters reported that both teenagers were on motorcycles. The accident occurred at about 14:30hrs.

Wilson of Katoonarib Village, South Rupununi was proceeding in a western direction while Edwards of Karaudanawau was descending a hill heading in a southern direction when Wilson drove into his path. Police said Wilson was reportedly speeding at the time of the accident.

The young men were both picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Aishalton Health Centre where Wilson was pronounced dead.

Edwards was later transferred to the Lethem Regional Hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

“The GPF extends condolences to the relatives of the deceased and continue to urge road users to exercise care and caution on the roads and trails across Guyana to minimize unfortunate incidents such as this,” the police said.
