4-month-old among 7 new COVID deaths; 743 new cases

Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 1, 108 after more persons including a four-month-old baby girl died. With these latest deaths, a total of 53 persons have died for January thus far.

The details on the latest deaths were released by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday;

  1. A four-month-old baby girl from Region Six (East-Berbice Corentyne) who died on January 14
  2. A 60-year-old man from Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice) who died on January 18; his vaccination status is unknown
  3. A 63-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) who died on January 19; his vaccination status is unknown
  4. A 66-year-old unvaccinated man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) who died on January 19
  5. A 63-year-old partially vaccinated woman from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica who died on January 18
  6. A 62-year-old woman partially vaccinated woman from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) who died on January 18
  7. A 68-year-old fully vaccinated woman from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) who died on January 18

Meanwhile, a total of 743 new COVID infections were recorded.

With these additional cases, the number of confirmed infections in Guyana since March 2020 has increased to 53, 921.

Th new infections were recorded in the following regions; Region One (34 cases), Region Two (21 cases), Region Three (49 cases), Region Four (323 cases), Region Five (54 cases), Region Six (40 cases), Region Seven (30 cases), Region Nine (63 cases) and Region Ten (129 cases).

There are 18 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 162 patients are in institutional isolation and 11, 639 are in home isolation.

To date, a total of 40, 994 people have recovered from the dreaded virus.
