    A 9-year-old boy from Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne) is among three new COVID-19 deaths recorded between January 18 and 19.

    The two other fatalities are a 60-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands – West Demerara) whose vaccination status is unknown and an unvaccinated 75-year-old woman from Region Nine (Upper Takutu – Upper Essequibo) have now pushed the overall death toll to 1, 111.

    With these latest deaths, a total of 56 persons have died for January thus far. A total of 17 children have died from the dreaded virus here.

    Meanwhile, 815 new infections were recorded from a total of 2, 541 tests taking the total number of confirmed cases to 54, 736.

    The new cases were recorded in the following regions; Region One (13 cases), Region Two (67 cases), Region Three (186 cases), Region Four (403 cases), Region Five (15 cases), Region Six (41 cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Eight (two cases), Region Nine (45 cases) and Region Ten (41 cases).

    There are 16 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 178 are in institutional isolation and 11, 770 are in home isolation.

    To date, 41, 661 people have recovered from the virus.
