Major developments are in store for the mining town of Linden (Region 10) with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest) Dr. Peter Ramsaroop announcing that several mega investments have already been earmarked to revive the town.

On Wednesday, while visiting the Midas BPO Call Centre in Linden, Dr. Ramsaroop stated that GO-Invest has inked several investment packages with companies eager to provide hundreds of jobs and economic security to the mining town in addition to other “tens of millions of dollars” in investments earmarked.

In fact, one of the more recent deals Dr. Ramsaroop alluded to was with a construction company that has already started setting up a Cement Batching Plant in Linden to serve Guyana’s housing sector. And when that is up and running, some 60 Lindeners are set to receive direct employment.

Additionally, Dr. Ramsaroop said that another company has acquired land on the outskirts of Linden to construct a Steel Factory. This venture will also provide jobs for close to 150 Lindeners.

“We are also about to sign an investment package with a medical supply company to do oxygen bottling and other types of packaging within the region.

“So the region is about to explode and it is exciting,” the GO-Invest head added.

Added to that, Dr. Ramsaroop pointed out that more jobs will be created as work gets underway on the US$190 million Linden to Mabura Hill road.

But with the ensuing development, Dr. Ramsaroop urged the people of Linden to tap into the commercial areas that will open up.

“Pay attention to all of these components that the government is putting into place and see where you fit in because when those bridges are done, and the road starts, there will be a need for gas stations and tire shops and many other support industries so those are where I would recommend that the Region 10 folks see where they fit,” he underscored.

Dr. Ramsaroop noted that GO-Invest will continue to facilitate more investments to ensure that Region 10 benefits equally as Guyana expands.

“This is one of the most exciting regions I think that we can continue to see growth in,” he said.

Earlier in 2021, President Irfaan Ali had announced plans of developing an Investment Zone in the mining town to bolster economic growth opportunities in Region 10 with heavy involvement of the private sector there to see the region bloom.

And this vision, which falls in line with President Ali’s commitment to inclusive economic development across Guyana is now being realised. (Shikema Dey)
