Several injured in Providence accident

Several persons were injured after the pick-up (GAB 4784) they were in lost control, crashed into the median and toppled several times along the Providence, East Bank Demerara Public Road.

Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 00:45 hrs on Monday.

The driver of the vehicle Sirpaul Singh, 38, of Croal Street, Georgetown was flung out of the vehicle.

He suffered severe head and chest injuries and is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Three other occupants – 34-year-old Roy Garcia, 20-year-old Jasmin Dias and Romario Ossorio, 32, were also injured.

Police said Dias is also in a serious condition with head and chest injuries while Ossorio suffered a fractured right shoulder.

According to the police, the vehicle was speeding north along the western carriageway when the driver approached the Mocha Access Road, lost control and collided with the concrete median.

Singh and Dias were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre in an unconscious condition and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Garcia was treated and sent away.

Police investigations are ongoing.
