A 22-year-old cashier was on Monday remanded to prison for stabbing the father of her children to his chest with a pair of scissors and leaving him in a critical condition at a city hospital.

Maria Walcott of East Ruimveldt appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weever at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court .

She was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that on January 23 at East Ruimveldt, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Keshawn Braithwaite, also known as Keshawn Griffith.

According to reports, on the day in question, the couple had a misunderstanding during which Walcott armed herself with a pair of scissors and stabbed Braithwaite to his chest.

The police prosecutor objected to Walcott being released on bail citing that the victim is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a city hospital and his condition is listed as critical.

The Magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecutor’s objection and remanded the mother of two to prison until February 21.
