Four-Day warm-up: Barnwell’s 66 highlights 17-wicket day
SUMMARY: Keemo Paul XI’s 182 all out in 71.3 overs (Akshaya Persaud 62, Keemo Paul 36, Kevin Sinclair 18; Demetri Cameron 2-15, Gudakesh Motie 2-29, Junior Sinclair 2-41, Christopher Barnwell 1-16) and 112-6 (Persaud 36, Kemol Savory 23, Trevon Griffith 16; Motie 2-10, Cameron 2-22) lead Leon Johnson’s XI 150 all out in 47.3 overs (Barnwell 66, Sinclair 44, Hemraj 15; Niall Smith 4-40, Keon Joseph 2-13, Ronsford Beaton 2-27) by 144 runs
Bowlers made merry of the conditions at the National Stadium, Providence, on Thursday, as 17 wickets fell on day two of the Guyana Harpy Eagles Four-Day practice match.
All-rounder Christopher Barnwell, who was excluded from the Eagles’ Four-Day set-up by the new Selection Panel on the basis of affording more opportunities to younger talents, was the day’s standout batsman with a fighting 66.
Playing for Leon Johnson’s XI, Barnwell, who did not play in the previous practice matches, rescued his side from 49-8 in the 20th over with a counter-attacking 99-run partnership with Junior Sinclair.
The 35-year-old Barnwell faced 119 balls and struck 10 fours, while Sinclair, who took a match-haul of 11-59 in the second practice match, struck four fours and two sixes in his 61-ball knock.
Chandrapaul Hemraj (15) and Vishaul Singh (14) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 150 in 47.3 overs, which gave Keemo Paul’s XI a handy 32-run lead.
Pacers Nial Smith (4-40), Keon Joseph (2-13) and Ronsford Beaton (2-27) led the way for Paul’s XI, who at stumps were 112-6.
Akshaya Persaud followed up his first-innings 62 with 36, while Kemol Savory (23), Trevon Griffith (16), Raymond Perez (15), and Mavinda Dindiyal (10) were the other men in double-figures.
Gudakesh Motie (2-10) and Demetri Cameron (2-22) have done the damage thus far; unbeaten at the crease are Keemo Paul (1*) and Joshua Persaud yet to score.
