COVID-19: Four more die, 375 new cases recorded
Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has now moved to 1,160 with the addition of four new deaths which occurred between January 25 – 28, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.
The persons who died were all from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); three males – a fully vaccinated 57-year-old; an unvaccinated 82-year-old and a 75-year-old whose vaccination status is unknown.
The other death was an 80-year-old woman whose vaccination status is also unknown.
January’s death toll has now increased to 105, making it the third month with the highest death toll since the pandemic hit here two years ago. The month with the highest death toll is September 2021 with 173 fatalities followed by October 2021 with 129.
Meanwhile, 375 new COVID infections were recorded from 1,895 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 58, 979.
The news cases were recorded in the following regions; Region One (88 cases), Region Two (four cases), Region Three (35 cases), Region Four (185 cases), Region Five (five cases), Region Six (34 cases), Region Seven (12 cases), Region Eight (one case) and Region Ten (11 cases).
To date, 46, 671 people have recovered from the virus.
There are 18 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 218 are in institutional isolation and 10, 912 are in home isolation.
