Police on the West Coast of Berbice have arrested a passenger, who was found with 5, 444 grams (12 pounds) of suspected ganja on Monday last. Police Headquarters reported that the illegal drug was discovered during a roadblock along the Weldaad Public Road.
The passenger was in a minibus with 11 other passengers. Police said the minibus was searched and the drugs were found in two bulky parcels in a black suitcase in the trunk of the minibus. The passenger later admitted ownership of the drugs and was arrested.
Police said the passenger was taken to the Weldaad Police Station where the ganja was weighed in his presence and amounted to 5,444 grams.
Investigations are ongoing.
