Two more die from COVID; 86 new cases recorded

A 79-year-old fully vaccinated man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), who died on January 30 and an 86-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), who died on January 27, are Guyana’s latest COVID-19 deaths.

The 86-year-old man’s vaccination status is unknown, according to the Ministry of Health.

With these two deaths, the country’s overall death toll has increased to 1, 168 since March 2020. It also means that 113 people have died in January.

Meanwhile, 86 new COVID infections were recorded from a total of 631 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 59, 889.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions; Region One (one case), Region Two (four cases), Region Three (12 cases), Region Four (13 cases), Region Six (nine cases), Region Eight (32 cases), Region Nine (14 cases) and Region Ten (one case).

There are also 11 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 200 people are in institutional isolation and 10, 898 people are in home isolation.

To date, 47, 612 people have recovered from the virus.
