Traffic across the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) on Tuesday afternoon is moving at a snail’s pace after a canter truck transporting an engine leaked oil along the 55-spans.

General Manager Wayne Watson explained to the News Room that the oil trail was some three metres in length.

“We were able to curtail it by putting some sand but it caused major traffic build-up because it was the entire Harbour Bridge the oil spill on,” Watson said.

He added that the traffic halted for approximately 25 minutes to facilitate the clean-up process.

Meanwhile, Watson stated that the driver of the truck (GXX 9271) was detained and charges will soon follow suit.

“We have both the driver and truck in custody…we have not decided on the charges yet but charges will follow,” he stated.

In a notice, the DHB Corporation cautioned drivers to traverse with caution.
